Author services

As published authors ourselves we understand just how much blood, sweat and tears goes into creating a manuscript - fiction or non-fiction. We are committed to providing the high quality service we would hope to receive ourselves. We provide a range of services for authors, currently at the post-development end of the publishing process; the part which focuses on presenting your work in the best possible way to your readers.

These services are available individually, or as bundled packages. If you are interested in more than one of these services please contact us for a tailored quote.

DEVELOPMENT/STRUCTURAL REVIEW

A development or structural review is a full read-through of your manuscript, before it goes through line or copyediting. The purpose of a development review is to identify any weaknesses or opportunities in your narrative arc, plot and structure, character and world development, style and dialogue, in accordance with your chosen genre. You will receive a written report featuring an objective assessment of your manuscript and our recommendations for your next steps.

80,000-100,000 words £600/$835

Line and CopyEditing

A copyedit (which is similar to or also known as a line edit) is performed on a draft manuscript. The purpose of a copyedit is to ensure your manuscript flows, with sentences and paragraphs that are clear and stylistically consistent, and has the correct tone for your intended readership. At this stage we will also look for formatting inconsistencies as well as query obvious factual inaccuracies and flag potential legal issues.

£100/$160 up to 10,000 words

£5/$8 per 1000 words thereafter

MARKETING strategy

Hurrah! So, you've published your book. Now what? We'd like your target readers to know it's there.

We do not manage advertising programmes for authors, but we can help you to decide on an advertising and promotional strategy based on your budget and your publishing goals. As this varies so widely between individual authors, we charge a pre-agreed hourly rate of £60 / $85 for creating a bespoke strategy.

The strategy will take into consideration your goals both at launch and long term, and will include not only paid advertising through Amazon, Facebook and BookBub, but also promotional activities such as blog tours, social blitzes, paid newsletters, launch parties and newsletter swaps. We can advise you on a particular strategy and also recommend providers for the recommended activities.

We offer a range of marketing services including author brand creation, website design and build, newsletter set-up and strategy, social media strategy and planning including promotional graphic design, and advertising and promotional strategy and planning.

H.M. Shander

"Victoria at The Word Tank did an outstanding job proofreading my MS. She went above and beyond, taking the liberty to carry out some minimal line edits, and gave great suggestions on consistency. Victoria completed the manuscript within a timely fashion, and even had it returned ahead of schedule. She caught many little errors in changes I'd made after my editor had her hands on it, so I'm very grateful for her eagle eye spotting. I'd recommend her fully for her proofreading skills."

Tosca de Villiers

"The Word Tank did a proofread on my manuscript. Not only was it a very thorough proofread - but more a copyedit. What I also appreciate is the respectful way in which they dealt with my work and the soft but firm touch they used in their edit remarks. It is not always easy to have somebody making changes to writing that you have spent months on. Not in one instance did they suggest a change that I did not agree with. I could understand and appreciate the reason behind them. The way in which they did the edit definitely enhanced my work, without changing my voice."

Sally Freytag

"The Word Tank edited my romantic novel, and in my view did a thorough job. Not only did they picked up on grammar and punctuation errors, but made suggestions to improve the flow of the writing and highlighted areas which need more attention from a creative point of view. The feedback was detailed and informative, while also being tactful and professional. I am more than happy to recommend them."
